I have been working on leading and rehearsing an ori Tahiti (Tahitian dance) group in Copenhagen. It’s been a pleasure and a challenge! Polynesian cultures are completely invisible in the entire Nordics. I would welcome thoughts, ideas and suggestions on how to continue with this project, and am super open to fusion, hybrid and collaborative ideas. For example, I have found that there is a West African instrument called the “krin,” whose sound is similar to the Tahitian “to’ere” and have found a couple of drummers who may be willing to learn ori rhythms for our group. Happy New Year to all!!!
