Our association Connexions is hosting a Community Dance Day on 11 September at Dansekapellet in Copenhagen, which is a beautiful atmospheric space including 4 dance studios built on the site of a former crematorium, yes, you read correctly. The studio spaces all have high ceilings, modern sound equipment, good floors, barres, a nice vibe. One of our goals is to contribute to building up the small dance community that exists here – it’s been challenging! It looks like it will be slow going, but promising. On Community Dance Day, the schedule is: first an Orixá dance workshop taught by Meire, then lunch hosted by us, then a co-taught dance workshop by Julienne (African Contemporary with Silvestre Technique and Guinea dance influences; J is my Connexions comadre) and by Alky Plus (traditional rhythms and dances of Guinea). Of course live percussion, djembe players and whoever else turns up 🙂
